Visionary Illuminist: The art and work of Nicole Burd

Personal history –

Growing up in the desert since the age of 10, I spent much of my time outdoors, exploring old abandoned warehouses, and staring up at the bright stars looking for satellites. Being that there really wasn’t much to do, I delved into my imagination found excitement in creating characters and places that I wanted to make a reality.

Fortunately, I have parents who are supportive of the arts and recognized my love of drawing and making things. Anxious to escape high school, I immediately attended Otis College of Art and Design upon graduating. My major was illustration and graphic design, and I also began learning about motion graphics and animation.

Professional work –

My professional work includes illustrating and designing book covers, creating key art for movie posters, as well as retouching photography. I have also done a few motion graphic title sequences.

Fine art –

Along with drawing and animation, my other obsession is rusty found objects. Somehow my mind finds solace in puzzle-piecing together old rusty junk and sculpting faces and hands to create odd junk puppets. I love making these things, and I hope you like them too.
